Why are we called Duality? The Oxford American Dictionary defines duality as "an instance of opposition or contrast between two concepts or two aspects of something". The word describes my approach to photography because while I make my living employing the most modern digital technique, I have deep respect for the original film and chemistry techniques.
I own and occasionally use about a dozen film-type cameras dating from the 1920's to the 1970's. I love the authentic vintage picture quality that you get from using authentic vintage equipment. I have volumes of books on the most influential photographers of the past for whom I have deep respect. I still have the Minolta my sister gave me.
Every once in a while, I'll take it out of the case and shoot a roll of film with it. Then I'll go back to my Canon 5D Mark III and enjoy the benefits of modern technology and the picture quailty that demanding art directors expect. In that sense, I guess I am of two minds.
